Cool Luke's 2011 WRX

Hey all, I thought it was time to create a build thread for my new baby! After a bit of a false start 3 years ago I'm now happily back in a Subaru.

Here is my original thread from then: http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/your-dri...nes-1-1-a.html. Unforunately due to some health issues with our first born I had to sell the 06 STi Luckily Tony from here took very good care of it and I'm glad to see it went to an enthusiast!

I was initially going to purchase a MK II XR6T, as it fit the criteria of 4 doors, turbo and leather. Due to me being picky however what I wanted was a bit light on, so I started looking at other options and this happened:

2011 WRX Premium with 77K kms on the clock. Lady owner and very well looked after, has the following mods:

- XForce dump and cat
- Invidia N1 cat back
- Cosworth Intake
- Upgraded IC
- BOV
- 19" Koyo Racing GK TEK rims
- Verso Tune to 263 HP

Loving it so far, exhaust and BoV can be somewhat obnoxious which my kids think is great! Very happy to be back in a Subaru

First "mod" was a thorough clean as it had been stored for a couple months and needed a wash and vacuum.

Number 1 helped by scrubbing the wheels

Second addition was the 2 baby seats in the back.....!

Booked it in for a service at STechnic who I used previously and once again were fantastic!! Car has a clean bill of health which is good to know.

We discussed the rims and tyres as currently the ride is a bit harsh for my liking with the 19's and the 35 profile tyres. I am probably going to go to an 18" rim as this will allow me more flexibility with tyre choice and also down the track suspension and handling options.

Next up was an engine bay dress up...or back down as someone had painted some things and I was unimpressed!

Grabbed ol faithful PlastiDip and after a clean with thinners I applied 4 coats to have it looking much better:

Thanks, I'm very happy with it!

Don't have massive plans yet although I swear I am being mind controlled into making random internet purchases

One thing that does need to be addressed is the wheels. I am not a fan of the current ride comfort which is down to the 19's combined with a 35 profile tyre. Love the look of them but after doing some research and speaking with the guys at STechnic I'll be making the move to an 18" wheel. More options with tyres, should be better pricing and means when I do handling and suspension mods it should give me more clearance.

Had a little free time last weekend whilst the kids had a nap. When I was looking for cars I drove a WRX with a short shifter and thought....this is fckn mint, I need one of these in my life!

Had a look around and settled on an Ultrex unit including the front bushings.

It does shorten the stick height which is a little unfortunate but the crispness of the shifts and massive reduction in throw makes up for this! Loving it!

I should probably post up a list of things I want to do to the car. A lot of it is just little things that will personalize the car to my taste.

Anyway, I know black is supposed to be slimming but I wasn't really a fan of the previous efforts on the rear:

Got some colour matched cans which included a base coat and the pearl top coat, removed the entire piece and gave it 3 coats of base and pearl.....much cleaner now!!

When I purchased the car I knew that the tyres were in need of replacing. Ride quality was pretty shite as well which I put down to the 35 profile on the 19's. Did some reading and spoke to a few tyre shops in regards to getting them replaced. Thought about going back to an 18" and running a slightly higher profile tyre, but after chatting to a shop who I have used in the past, they mentioned that the old tyres were acutally too narrow for the current rims. They suggested that a wider tyre would fit properly and have more flex in the sidewall which should improve ride and handling.

Did some shopping around and Bridgestone have a buy 3 get 1 free deal until end of December so I snagged some RE003's for a bargain price!!

WOW!! Totally transformed the car...ride is much improved and they are great tyres Very happy!!

Hey Subaru...what the fuck guys!? Way to cheap out...especially on a "premium" model! The seats are leather which is nice but the gear and handbrake boots are shitty vinyl or whatever? LAAAAAAME!

Ordered some nice leather ones to replace and they turned up yesterday. Quality is great and the leather and stitching match so they'll look rad.
