Research has proved this theory wrong. P platers will speed no matter what car, some cars will just take longer to get to that same speed. A performance car will handle better at speed and be less likely to cause an inexperienced driver to loose control. More expensive cars have better airbags, ABS, traction control, crumple zones etc. I'd much rather have an accident in a 50k car than a $16k ecconobox.

and to gumby, i've accumulated 2 demerits in a year and a bit, which isn't really that bad, and that's the only time i've been pulled over by the cops what terry.wrist said in the latter part of his post is really what i'm trying to say, it's easy to get caught in that bracket two times and lose your license even if for the majority of times you're responsible on the road i do agree that all the fgts in the skyryines and s13's who try and give runs to anything that moves shouldn't be on the road by far and it's easy to know if you're speeding by looking at the spedo look, i may have been a bit firey in my initial posts, these laws are probably for the best, it just shits me off being one of the more 'responsible' drivers on the road and having to drive like a grandma; and yes i do enjoy a spirited drive every once in a while, however under this new system i shall be doing none of the sort, which is upsetting

If you want to hand your offspring 50k for their first car along with a false sense of safety, go for it. Safety ratings and the way a car handles is only as good as the driver's skill and maturity.

That is what I boils down to.
In my school/group of mates from other schools it wasn't the blokes with performance orientated cars that drove like knobheads but the guys who had shitboxes or mummy's car that would drag each other in traffic with a car load etc etc. |

stupid statics to justify the moved thou "Research shows that people who accrue demerit points as novice drivers are 66 per cent more likely to be involved in a crash"
i got to having 1 demirt point left and never been in a crash and everyone i know except my misses got demerit points and never crashed and fuck all people actually crash, coz there wuld be a hell of alot more crashing going on if this was the case. But i do agree P platers shouldnt have powerful cars, its just asking for trouble especially big v8s |

all the demerits you gained before the 1'st don't count toward that limit of 8, but they still form a part of your limit of 12, which has no time-frame
