Mitch, Subaru use lot of oil, especially our models. Mine used 1L of Redline 10W40 per 1000km before, and both compression test and leak down test were good.

Maybe relax a bit first, dont jump to conclusion too fast. There r a few thing u can check for ringland failure:

1: cold start the car check for white smoke.
2. warm up the car, remove oil cap, check for smoke from filler neck.
3. pull out fuel pump fuse, crank engine, check for uneven noise.

If u get all of above, then get a compression test done, and pull off TMIC, check for oil residue due to blown turbo seal.

If engine is fine, replace spark plug, use a grade up oil, get a Crawford AOS, and change oil every 5000km, and check oil every week.

Good luck, hopefully it turns out fine

At this point I would just do what Mitch is doing and drop it off to a workshop who knows what they're doing, luckily he still has warranty and hopefully they can cover whatever is wrong.

1L of oil every 1000kms doesn't sound very good.

Agreed on going back to dealer. But u can quickly do some diagnosis. I wont take dealer's words 100%, they would avoid rebuild all they can, especially if its not dealer serviced. Plus dealer rebuild is questionable imo.

Thats what I thought, consumption is a bit too much. But if leak down test says ok, must be blowby then, not seal leaking neither. Bit still keep an eye out.

More like someone didn't secure the drain plug properly.

1L per 1000km is certainly not 'normal for a subaru'

Not that much any more after switch to penrite racing. It uses about 300ml per 1000km now. Will relocate aos out of filler neck to c if oil splash from filler neck would be the factor.

People who ask many questions then provide limitless advice on the same subject ... It's like being sold high fidelity audio at Harvey Norman. An anathema at the least.
