I plan to build four port catch can with pvc pipe and lawn mower filter (pcv to inlet, head breather to inlet), and direct water spray nozzle to point at them. Does it sound ok to u guys?

The car uses oil from day one, said the previous owner, with mobil one fs 5w30, about two litre per 5000km.

Mao said he had a customer with a my 12 sti coming in the shop for a 5000km service with 1 litre in the sump (previously done by dealer, which I think use mobil one semi synthetic). But argh spec (my12) doesn't use noticeable amoumt of oil at all thats what got me to change to penrite racing. So far less consumption.

When replacing inlet, I found the old inlet was filled with oil.

It seems like each car behave differently, like different oil as well. From what I under stand. Once oil level is low, oil control ring got excessive wear, and u will get more oil consumption forever. Plus blow by make things worse.

Welcome to the confusing club. We have the same situation, lol. Have a look what I write on my thread. I will keep things updated too.

Oil level has nothing to do with ring wear (as such), the underside of the piston is sprayed with oil from the conrod bigend journal relief's - the only time you would experience a lack of bore/ring lubrication would be if you had ZERO oil pressure........And then bore/ring oiling would be the least of your issues.

Sorry, if i didnt describe it clearly. Is the second ring on piston designed to scrap off oil from bore prevent oil burnt in combustion chamber while piston travel downwards? If gap increases, more oil will get consumed?

The Scraper ring is the piston ring with a tapered face located in the ring groove between the compression ring and the oil ring. The scraper ring is used to further seal the combustion chamber and to wipe the cylinder wall clean of excess oil. Combustion gases that sneak past the compression ring are stopped by the scraper ring - if it's doing it's job.

If the second ring is knackered you usually have a lot of blowby at all engine loads.

Ring 'gap' is the clearance between the ends of a ring when compressed against the cylinder wall - this gap changes very, very little over a motors lifetime.

Rings are held under tension against the bores by nature of their shape & are designed to use combustion pressure (behind the ring) to increase the seal with load.

Ring to piston clearance can & does if the piston material is operating to hot or the material is too soft to begin with - ala 2.5L chocolate pistons.

No one has mentioned bore glazing which is a possibility too.

strictly speaking your Liberty has an EJ255 not EJ257, not much difference aside from the cams I believe

Whilst Subarus can exhibit a higher oil consumption than some other makes and dependent on driving style anything above the occasional top up is a sign of an underlying issue.

1L per 1000 Kms being "normal" is simply rubbish.

There is a known issue with the FB engines though ... Subaru TSB for Excessive Oil Consumption
