Glad I left when I did.

They are massively downsizing, but that is to be expected as Gorgon & Wheatstone construction winds down. Part of the cycle, it sucks, but its be expected.
Yeah it's been happening in little pieces over the last 6 months but that's been more to do with project people.

This week is all the permanent staff (more like not so permanent now) and we're talking big numbers in the 1000s

...I'm waiting for my calendar invite/phone call right now to be honest, seen so many people go already yesterday/today

That is no good. I have been hearing of the plans that Chevron has to cut back but thought it was only 300.

I don't think its the issue of being made redundant, but trying to find a job after wards.
Something has to pay the mortgage and the job market lately hasn't been that flash for some time.

The few long term permanent staff that got made redundant are laughing....

Not the majority of the workforce as most are hired as full time staff but on 2 year renewable fixed term contracts....so when cut, you get sweet fuck all, like 4 weeks notice plus one week per month left in your FTE contract.

And some have copped the big finger, those who were close to the term of their FTE contracts like 1-3 months away just got told to work to your last contracted day and bye bye.

Trying to find work in this current environment is totally fucked up right now, Perth market has completely slowed.

Yep - it's pretty farked mate. I work in a totally different industry to you, but we are going through Org Structure Redesign and thus redundancies one after the other, and repeat, and repeat again. Across all Business Units and Functions in an AU/NZ business.

Very ugly, makes the workplace very unpleasant with so much uncertainty. Not conducive for high levels of engagement and thus productivity.

I've been with the company almost 9 on staff.

True, if you are on staff, been there for around 10 years+, you then will get a half decent payout. Redundancy for most people is the best thing that can ever happen. You get a phat lump sum, to which some people would only see once in their lives.

We've had people walk away and pay of their houses the next day.

If you're young and you get the golden envelope, you bank the coin, and move on to new work providing the market is good, or you have some solid contacts. That's the ideal outcome. Doesn't work that way for everyone, specially if you're getting on a bit, have no industry contacts etc.

Some people just don't want to leave either - being there so long, their job is the life, the friends they have. I've seen grown men cry because of redundancy after doing something so long for something they love.

Shit you been 9 years under Fixed Term Employment, thats huge... I've been 4 years now and they're seeing the term of my current one in less than 2 months now....but thats for this particular role only and not stopping me from finding another role internally should there be one (I'm not holding my breath)
People that got cut yesterday can't apply for any roles for the next 365 days

Sorry I should clarify - I'm on staff, no end date etc. Full Time Employee, not a fixed term contract.
