If only people were allowed to drive to the conditions.

I don't care (I obviously kinda do) if people want to drive under get limit but fucking move over and don't hold other people up.
People think they are entitled to sit in her right lane... in fact it is quite the opposite.

Keep left unless overtaking....... people say but that only applies over 90km/h.
I do not care move the fuck over it's just good driving practice! |

It's really not that hard. I think it just stems from a lack of driver training. I know freeway driving was never a part of my driving test...

In the UK it is at any speed, so you get used to doing it.. ( mostly)
When I see idiots pull onto the freeway and instantly move to the middle lane it gives me the shits.... I just drive down the left hand side of them... |

^^^ there's a problem with that though, imo it again comes back to false speedo readings.
There are those that will always go less than the speed limit and stay in left lane but then there are those who believe they are doing the speed limit and those that are actually doing the real (gps) speed limit. I find when im doing the actual speed limit, very few cars push up behind going faster. But because of the inaccurate speedo specifications there are 3 distinct speed groups instead of 2 and this is a significant contribution to our traffic chaos. Moving left on a busy freeway increases the exposure to risk significantly, i regularly see dangerous situations when people move left out of courtesy only to cut in front of another car. If we had accurate speedos or everyone used a gps there would be a huge decrease in lane changing simply because someone doing the actual speed limit pushes up behind someone doing false speedo reading speed limit. With accurate speedos or gps those two groups would be travelling in unison in a much safer manner. If someone is doing the actual speed limit, im more than happy to follow behind and i think most people would feel the same. Inaccurate speedos are dangerous and imo cause traffic hazards and congestion. I'd actually like the gov to charge a one off extra $100 or so on everyone's rego and supply each vehicle with a gps for accurate speed determination. I reckon this would contribute significantly to reducing congestion, driver aggression and risk. |

Or have car manufacturers make two speed displays. A traditional mechanical speedo on the dash, and a digital/GPS readout next to it or within the map software of their navigation device so that people are aware of the discrepancy at cruising speeds (as GPS is not that accurate when accelerating).

Drive to conditions and have actual police policing bad drivers and dangerous behavior.
Too far fetched and out there for our government to implement and the "not revenue raising" cameras are suited to doing the job.

Drive to the conditions!!! there is a novel statement..
I once got flamed on facebook for saying someone who crashed into a tree and died ( wasn't my fault) must have been going too fast for the conditions.... The argument was it was a 80 km/h zone and there could have been leaves on the ground blah blah.... as far as I am concerned if it's 80km/h and its tipping with rain doesn't make it right to do 80 on a narrow leaf covered road... Then someone said a Roo may have jumped out...I said well if there was that chance drive a bit slower so you can stop in time. When I was younger I mashed a car up badly on a corner at night in the fog.. Cops came and crawled around the same corner at 5mph.... they said to me were you going too fast? I said no...they said well we got round it.. I couldn't argue and I learnt alot. |

People are brainwashed into thinking "do the speed limit or under = good driver".
Besides talking on the mobile or drunk driving, that is pretty much it when it comes to driver education. "Drop 5, save lives." If people had to actually think for themselves instead of relying on numbers on a road sign and paying more attention to the speedo than the road, the quality of driving would (IMO) increase. Get some idiot in the car thinking it's perfectly safe to drive at 80km/h around a bend in the pouring rain because the sign says 80 is retarded. Same as people doing 90 on the FWY 3 a breast blocking traffic, not indicating, having no idea what to do at round abouts or merge points etc. If these were all easy to make a buck out of, they'd be onto it.
