Partly cloudy. Light to moderate W'ly winds.

yeh im a bit confused at the moment. might just call BOM up for a more precise forecast. i think the main point tho is that IF there is a storm, there wont be hail in it around the metro area. not a weather man but thats my guess lol

Our power went off at 4pm yesterday and it's still off now, over 24 hours later. Many in the same boat, but we're okay apart from a small roof leak which I managed to fix during the downpour. We didn't seem to get much hail here, fortunately.

This morning I drove up to Supacheap in Midland and picked up a large generator, which is big enough to power the big ol' house fridge, ADSL & laptop. (Priorities, priorities) Seem to have saved all the food in the fridge & freezer, which is just as well because $80 wouldn't cover 1/4 of it.

I'm guessing insurance would cover that kind of loss, but you have to weigh up the excess fees as well.

So, I'm out about $300 on fuel & the generator, but at least the cars were under cover. Could have been worse, although nagging kids desperate for their PCs & Facebook etc are starting to grate.

definate commiserations to everyone who suffered damage. thankfully it didnt hail at work so the RS escaped, only to have the front lip smashed off driving through a pool of water, and almost drawing water up the intake. for anyone who doesnt want to wait for a panel shop or who isnt insured, perhaps now is a good time to link this

Hi All.
Sorry to hear about all the damage, but if I were you I would take a step back and size up the situation and find out all the correct information (insurance etc) before getting too upset.

Some damage (boot lid & bonnets) can be fixed at a decent price.

Regards Steve

(ps I hope I am not being too insensitive )

So here's a question then.

As I said earlier my GX took a beating yesterday. Given that I have the time to fix it and I don't really want it written off, just how hard is it to fix hail damage anyway? I'd get someone to paint it properly after but I don't mind putting in the time and the effort to fix the dings if it's mostly manual labour. Anyone got any ideas/links?

Cheers,

Wrxpc

Just had a look at my parents 09 audi a4. Seems like it has been damaged from the hail as well.

How exactly do they remove all the dents when theres so many? new panels?

info on bog repair can be found in part 3 of that link i posted, heres part 3:

http://autofix.com.au/blog/archives/593

dent craft usually removes the door cards or roof lining etc, then bangs them out from the inside. altho im sure thats an art and it wouldnt be perfect if attempted DIY for multiple dents ala hail. reskinning/replacing the panel is probly the option in that case.

incidently, stuart from dent craft is a master at making dents disappear, did an awesome job on my calais, he is mentioned elsewhere on the forum. altho im sure he is fully booked for the next 5 years.

hail damage is mentioned there:

Soo... checked out the wife's car when I got home today... add a Mazda 323 SP20 to the write-off list!

It was parked at PMH and has the "golf-ball" effect all over the bonnet, boot and roof! On a car insured for $14k I doubt it will fit into the "repair" category!

bummer!
