I have used products from clark rubber to do this job successfully on more than one vehicle.
I would recommend against the use of grommets if you were to de-wing an sti because there are so many holes in the bootlid. a wrx has 5 holes an sti as about 10 or 12.

I might not seal the around the whole spoiler and just replace the rubber seals around the bolt
get some foam to line around the spoiler edges... thanks guys
