Default Window felt pad replacement

Had a bit of a search on here and google. Before I put my windows back in, I want to renew the felt pads in my doors. I know you can buy them new, but from what I have been reading they are around $12 - $13 each. 4 in each door so times that by 16, it adds up. I have seen mention of cleaning them (too far gone) or replacing the felt. Anyone done this? If so, what material did you use?
