Hey guys/gurls...

My younger son has the Celica GT4 in my sig... it is a non metallic Toyota red and it seriously needs a respray (external only, in factory original colour)... been quoted locally in Bunno (2 quotes so far) @ $4500-5000...

We wanna get it back to original condition, it's unmodified which is exactly how he wants to keep it, and the paint job is the only flaw in the whole car. The external of the car is dead straight, and you have to hunt hard to find the two minor shopping trolley dents in the doors.

Am I being unrealistic in thinking that the quotes I've had so far seem excessive... been quite a while since I've had a car fully resprayed (1991 from memory - old Celica TA22 change colour from white to red - $1500 & a damn good job at the time).

Anyone on here who can recommend a good spraypainter who can do much better than the above? Moreover, anyone on here in the spraypainting game looking for a weekend cashie? Happy to travel to Perth if need be, and will certainly do so if the price is right.

Is that quote for a full strip down and painted properly? ie. getting the bumpers and panels off the car. If so, I think you will find its pretty much on the money. If you want a cheaper job, you will get exactly that... a cheaper job. eg. the car will remain together and everything will just be masked off. Quick and possibly nasty.

Is that such a bad thing by someone who knows what they are doing? TBH, I really don't know, coz the WHOLE of the exterior needs a respray, including bumpers, wing mirrors etc.... the external of the car is fully "colour coded" except for the black bits on the front.... working to a budget here, hence the suggestion of a weekend cashie for someone in the skills.... open to ideas here.

It's not always a bad thing, but corners may be cut, less attention to detail, etc. Just something to be wary of. You would want to be very clear on exactly what you're getting and how much prep work they're going to do. marC may be able to shed more light on this if he's around. Like any industry, there are a lot of cowboys out there.

+1 on TJ's suggestion, have a chat to Owen @ Meltham. He's organised a few members resprays and helped numerous others with smaller items (such as my spoiler) and rim repairs/painting. Good bloke.
