Getting a new turbo etc next week. Getting the car re-tuned (was originally tuned by Evo-R), but tuner-Racetorque are saying I need to get the car flashed back to standard by Evo-R before they can tune it. Explanation is that they need to tune from a base OEM map not try to tune over the top of another map.

Can anyone explain this to me I don't really understand how the ecu mapping thing works?

Cheers

P.S. This is not a public stoning session...

Not sure of the reasoning, but ask Racetorque if they will upload a stock rom for you. Should be able to acquire one from a visit to a few Subaru forums or ROM Raider forums. I have seen people share stock ROMs over the years.

Having said that, you could drive out with a new security keypad if you go back to Evo-R. Would Mao (or any tuner for that matter) have even saved a stock ROM? Who knows...

I'm waiting to hear back from Dave at Racetorque but yeah the question I wanted to ask is could they flash someone else's stock tune from another 2010 onwards STi or does it specifically have to be my original one?
I would have thought they would have a few oem maps from other customers stored in their dyno.

He also said something about when ecu's are flashed back to standard there is still a little bit of the tune map left behind making it harder for the next person who tries to tune it with their software??

I believe Warwick did save my original power run before the tune, I think they need to in case there are problems while they are tuning. I'm just trying to save myself a +2 hours driving turn around and whatever time I lose waiting around there while Evo-R do it.

Gordon Racetorque use ecutek.

My car qas tuned by RT at one stage. They r great to dealt with, and knows their stuff specially on link ecus.

Maybe something like intake temp, water temp compensation table can not be flashed back completely? Give Mao a call if u need to.

Cheers Gordon.

Got a pm from Mao saying that Racetorque should have no issues tuning my car as the factory ecu Rom ID has not been altered in anyway, so Racetorque can accurately read the rom ID and can contact Brett Middleton @MRT direct for the factory base map before retuning.

The original tuner knows what a 3rd party tuner can do with a different tuning software that he doesn't utilise and can advise that another 3rd party can supply the base map.

How convenient.

This is the PM I received from Mao last night. It seems he may know a bit about Ecutek.

Hi Nick,

You do not need to download stock tune.

We do not use romraider or ecuflash. So it will not hurt your Ecutek tune.

We are linked to tune Ecutek in Singapore and Japan, but do not work with Ecutek here due to their current policy of us having to share our tunes.

Just let Dave know that the factory ecu Rom ID has not been altered in anyway, so with his Ecutek cable, he can accurately read the rom ID and can contact Brett Middleton @MRT direct for the factory base map before retuning.

I have an agreement with Brett not to interfere with Ecutek here, so just pass the above info on and you will be on your way for your new Ecutek tune.

Cheers,
Mao

Edit: Car was retuned by Lane at Racetorque with Ecutek, with no issues.
