Vipec Tune on WRX with STi block
Hi Guys,
We did another Vi-pec tune today on a 2004 WRX with STi bottom end and only a VF22 turbo, with the usual cooling and breathing mods. Max power at 291.9hp at 1.3-1.4 bar of boost (as usual, actuator was not holding well). Car came in with a poor Vi-pec tune at 258hp. Comparing this to the previous tune on this thread, the difference was in the boost and the variance in factory actuator quality. Below is the graphs from the initial to the final power run. (note we got rid of the flat at 4500rpm from the initial power run shown by the red curve!) Below is the initial power run with the Vipec already installed and tuned somewhere else. It ran only 258hp with a big flat from wrong boost setting at 4500rpm!: Below is the result if 291.9hp after we tweaked the ECU: Last edited by mao; 11-01-2012 at 11:30 PM. Reason: wrong turbo id |

That is good example of the tuner being the most important factor, nice work Mao.
On that WRX, what other mods were there? If you don't mind me asking, obviously TBE, but what intercooler, what injectors?

AFRs are in the 11s and car had a Greddy Front Mount Intercooler that we installed in 2004 and a new Sti bottom end, while running a VF22.
Injectors were stock Sti 550s. Don't credit me for this tune. it was all Warick's. |

Well done Mao,
Warick has done very well. I might be able to get away from work on Tues night so I am wondering if I can watch Warick tune it, hopefully on the Wed?

Hey guys, it was my car that Warick tuned today.
Im also running cosworth 272 cams and springs and a Tomie FPR (not that the FPR matters) Mods are the usual *Apexi pod filter *UEL extractors, uppipe and full 3" exhaust through to a 5" cannon (cannon to be changed in the future!) *injectors *walbro fuel pump Im looking into a new turbo, still very undecided This tune was on BP 98ron, as this is all i run in my new motor. I was extremely happy when i saw the numbers once we sorted out a few little issues with the boost, as mao said, the stock actuator the weak point as always. If anyone else has questions, feel free to ask, ill answer them as best i can. Stoked with the car, she pulls hard and just keeps going Cant wait for the weekend to go for a nice drive somewhere Big thanks to the boys at Evolution R! |

U'll be always welcomed to sit in the car as well during the tune. Just let him get the base map done properly and u can sit in the car and watch the numbers on the screen.
Yes looks like wed, but latest thursday. Can't wait. |
