Need New Mainboard/Chip.. anyone work for a pc store ?
Hey Guys, does anyone here work for a pc store ? I am after some advice/prices please.. My motherboard is becoming intermittant, it keeps locking and heating quite a bit.. So i'm after a small upgrade.. but.
i want to keep my existing pieces, my 4x agp ATi Radeon 9550, my 1.25 ddr400 ram, and i need 2 x pci slots, also ide. If you could give me a price and a place to steer to, that'd be great. generally i just use it for very poor spelling and grammar, internet/msn, general word processing, and photoshopping every now and then. Thats about it. Only need the board and the chip. Thanks Peter

finding a motherboard to suit a old CPU and with an AGP slot will be impossible at a retail store.
Look on ebay.

Its an AMD Athlon XP 2600+.
Rang round for a few quotes today, got one i quite liked, 267 bucks, M/b, AMD dualcore chip, and 2 gig of ram.. pretty much thinking of heading that way

Dude not worth it Just bite the bullet and upgrade everything thats old ram and graphic card man
Honestly you can buy new DDR2 4 gig ram for $70 a 512mb 9400GT PCI-E graphic card for $89 MotherBoard for $159 Cor 2 Duo for $249 Who says its your board playing up, could be cpu or ram or anything man. Just use it as time to upgrade everything in one hit. Computer stuff isnt that expencive now days.

pretty sure it's not the ram as it got replaced last year. but yeah, i am going to replace the lot as noted in my post above yours.. I actually got a cheaper quote down here then a few in Perth, so hopefully ( if the minister of finance allows me), i'll go get the stuff tomorrow.. Thanks for everyones help.
