Seems the adoption of bluray is pretty slow... I'm certainly not interested for at least another coupla years. In the meantime, DVD is very watchable and media & hardware are cheap as.

Cheapest writer at MSY is about $175 for the LG one I think. There was a pioneer for roughly the same price too.

Blu ray media is also expensive. Average price $5-10 for a 25GB disk, 50GB is twice that. (if you know cheaper, by all means let me know....)

When you look at it per GB and compare it to DVD's it's not bad at all.
But if you were to hire a Blu ray movie at the video store and stick it on a 50GB disc (I imagine most movies wont fit on 25gb) then you've nearly spent half the price as if you were to buy the original. Kinda pointless really.

You're probably better off ripping them to a mammoth HDD and watch them straight off there.
Having said that, the burners are good for backing up a crap load of data.

And yes the files are in STREAM folder.
I have not used power DVD 10, but with PowerDVD 8, you couldn't use the "open files from hard disk", and you have to manually select them in the "add media files" (or whatever that option was).

I was also going to update the thread I created the other day as I found DVD fab 7 seems to rip blu rays quite well.
Also you might want to get a copy of anydvd HD to remove the region crap too (shittiest invention ever) but be careful as ANYDVD torrents are virus central.

^^ Factor in that without a metaphorical supercomputer its going to take ages to auther them to a viable storage size.
