Default Bluray Writers and Blue ray in general

ANy body here have one yet as price has come down.
Dont really have a major purpose for it though

Thought it could be handy

Have seen a samsung one for around the $100 mark
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Samsung-SH-B0...=AU_Components

I have downloaded a blue ray disc how ever I can not even work out how to play it on pc. I have downloaded couple programs that people have recomended to play the file type how ever still not working.

So any body else done it or know how to play the files at least.

BlueRay uses Java Protection so there need to be ripped correctly or they will not play back.

to download a full uncompressed BlueRay RIP your looking at 40GB+ per movie

PowerDVD10 will playback your mkv downloads rips without a problem

Unless you're looking to download and burn backups so you don't have to use your originals there really isn't a reason for one.

Unless you're looking to burn footage from events to a disk

Due to harddrives being pretty cheap now days its just as easy to stream your downloaded backups from your PC, saving the need for another device being plugged in.

Alternately if you wanted to rip your originals to your harddrive it could be usefull, but then again having unauthered complete bluerays sitting on your PC for streaming seems like a waste of space.

Out of curiosity, the devices may be cheap, but what's the media worth?

Come to think of it, if you're needing to replace your optical drive anyway, why not.

Additional Question:

Curious to know what the write speed for the burner is and related media, as viable DVD9 media isnt available yet and takes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to write to, so you may as well plan your retirement with blueray burning?

It was just some Samsung Bluray 1080p demo disc.

I bought the Samsung SH-B083 at MSY for $87 last week if you wanted it cheaper than the Ebay price.

Hey mang, what are you paying re: media, and what spec's, brand and quantity are you seeing?

Much in the way of redundant disks?

Cheers,

I have one on my HTPC. Won't be burning anything with it, just use it for playback of blurays.
