A vf36/37/42 will work if he gets a new twinscroll up-pipe with the correct flange for the these vf turbos. And if that is done a new WRX TMIC will be needed or go the FMIC route. If a WRX TMIC is used then a new scoop air splitter will be needed as the stock splitter is designed for the stock TMIC which is much smaller and different shaped than a WRX TMIC.
Update, the stock turbo is single scroll not twin scroll. MRT told me the following:

" New model 2007 Lib GT Spec B runs a single scroll turbo - I can't say exactly what will need changing as we haven't tried yet but I would guesstimate that barest minimum will be headers, uppipe, turbo, downpipe, complete rework from tuning perspective and a couple of other minor things as required.

At this point, wait until you get your hands on the car and we have a few more results on board running the existing turbo setup and you can make your mind up from there. Some of the twin scroll setups are good, some are not so good (as found on the earlier MY04-06 Lib GT 2.0L) and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what the car is capable of in standard trim (certainly way better than the earlier 2.0L Lib GT range). :-)

At present we are mid way through the R&D process and are seeing some really good results with tune only (heaps more mid range toruqe and improved throttle response in all 3 Si Drive maps, with around 20kw up over standard in the Sport Sharp map with no mechanical modifications such as exhaust etc). We are anticipating substantially more gains with new exhaust, intercooler, etc fitted, but obviously it will depend heavily on how fast you want the car to be. :-)

Your best port of call in WA is Steve at Maximum Motorsport. At present the software/hardware required for the tuning upgrade is approximately 4-6 weeks away from being available to our resellers, but if you contact Steve on (08) 9249 7444 or info@maximummotorsport.net.au he will be able to confirm as things draw closer"

Fark Tek and MMS means it ain't going to be cheap for mods either!!!!!

Thats weird. Ive seen the td04 pulled out of a GT. It was definitely twinscroll.

If you'r keen on swapping turbos, the plastic intake manifold is also different from the WRX manifold, so that needs changing too to mate up to a WRX TMIC. If whats said is true that they are single scroll (which kinda sucks, as the USDM apparently gets a twinscroll TD04 with the 2.5L) then it'd be a heck of a job. just strap a GT35 to the side

yep agree completely with all of that! Despite that I still have a woody and haven't been this excited since I picked up the MY06 STI - well except on my wedding day/night of course!!

that said, where teh outlet for the plastic manifold comes out, FMIC piping would be significantly reduced. but fuck butchering your GT for that
