Speak to JWS about it as they have done it
Or don't register the car and driv it on a movement permit or trailor to and from events.

You can get an event permit for ATC so you can drive it on the road

Fair enough but when I ring up to confirm this with CAMS I get the aforementioned run around.

When I ring up DPI they say talk to CAMS

Grr

When I had my car log booked I did not have a cage installed in it. From memory it is logged as a 3 RCO (Rally Car Other).

The CAMS office here sent me out a package that included a document that explained what was required to get B Reg. Again from memory it was as simple as organising for a scrutineer to come look at the car and sign a form which you then take to CAMS along with a 3/4 front and 3/4 rear shot of the car. They then issue a log book. Once you have that you take the log book plus your proof of ownership and your car to the pits and they can issue the registration.

Everything I hear from people trying to do it these days suggests that it's not as easy as it used to be for some reason. My car was done in early 2008.

Edit: Just saw Fred's link to Brendan's post. Sounds like you're screwed now unfortunately.

Have you got shanes number? I can give it to you if you like.

I have the forms that cams will send you in relation to how to get "registration for dedicated, modified gravel rally vehicles (B Class)

If you send me your email address I can scan a copy and send it to you. However.....on the front page in bold it reads....

"The registration scheme is designed for gravel rallies only. If you have a rally car designed for tarmac rallies such as targa west, you will not be able to register the car."

Having said all that I think that they are trying to keep out skylines / old porkas etc. i.e. log book the car for gravel and then register it but never take the car near it.

Have they added the part you've quoted Brendon? I don't remember my version of the doco saying that back in 08.

What Brendon has quoted is correct. They have made it very difficult now to B-reg Tarmac cars as the system is being rorted by people who b-reg a vehicle and then use it as daily transport ie driving their cars daily to their mechanics.

From someone who brings in a lot of cars for race/rally use you would be hard pressed to get yourself something better than a Version 5 or 6 STi Type RA. Within limits*, this vehicle will provide you with more fun and time in car for your dollar than you can poke a stick at. JWS recently sold a V6 RA which competed at several hill climbs, with Michael Lloyd driving, absolutely bog standard, running normal road rubber and this car was setting times leaving much more fancy machinery for dead. This car sold for $13k. With a budget of $20k you'd have all your consumables (r-comp tyres, brake pads, fuel) and still have change left over, after a year of club-level motorsport, for a replacement gearbox if you simply cant drive without any mechanical sympathy.

My 2c worth

* Limits being keeping the power at stockish power levels and driving with some mechanical sympathy. Winning at any level of motorsport will cost $$$$$'s.

awesome car now owned by brad chapman. would of been mine, but i wasn't allowed to buy it . on conversing with the new owner, he intends to keep it pretty much as it is and return it to its former original condition. recently it has coped two sparco pro 2000's and full bolt-in cage, pnp autronic will follow soon after.
