I dont think that this will matter so much. i.e. CAMS need to approve the car for gravel before you can enter an event and once you have said certificate then I dont see why DPI would deny you. Shane is a reasonable bloke and would no doubt be sympathetic if he thought you were doing the right thing.

Maybe some competition experience is neccessary but who are they to say that Dutton Rally or AHG or club motorsport is tarmac or gravel. It is simply listed as a motokhana etc. I dont think the DPI guys would be that into it. No doubt could get an prick of an inspector but these things would already have a scrutineering certificate from CAMS (read someone else to blame) so I think it would be more of a rubber stamp than anything.

by the time that car is finished the current crop of DPI inspectors will have died of old age and there will be a whole new system to go through.

This is a double edged sword. Something like AHG you dont need a permit to drive but you dont have a tow vehicle / trailer.

If you get a movement permit you have to physically go into a licensing centre and wait in line and get the permit each time. A monumental pain in the ass.

I currently have a 12 month permit but that ends in July and there will be no more

Terrific work and great info Brendon...in a way I can see why DPI are concerned about B reg cars being used too much as daily drivers, though it seems a bit odd just to ban B reg on tarmac cars and say "problem solvered".

Graham, I personally reckon the best option is to go down the JME route...find an Oz spec car damaged or otherwise and transplant....I will pretend I didn't even see the comment about transplanting only parts of a car to comply it...highly illegal...enough said. Fortunately since you are getting an 01/02 car, there are probably a few high mileage GX-type bugeyes around for reasonable money (given that you can currently buy an MY07 GX from a dealer for around $16K). Sounds like a fun project...stick to it mate and you will and up with a really good bit of kit.

Ok so I have a L2S cams liccy and want to buy a cheap import thrash box dak dak from Japan to hack around AHG and enter Dutton.

So if you wanted to bring a complete car in to stick on a trailer or get occasional permits, how would you go about that? I was under the belief that no one could get a complete car in unless it was going to be b-reg and from Brendon's comments, would now need to be a caged dirt rally car.

Cheers Brendon

I noticed you can ring up and buy a permit over the phone using your credit card per the DPI website ($13 for 48 hrs?).

REALLY dont want to have top go there in person too often if I can avoid it!
