I got my completely unmodified Version VI STi with 160,000kms on it for $20,500. If you were considering that GC8 you first posted up (and were hoping to pick something up around that price), it might just be worth the extra $2k to get an STi.

How long are u planning on keeping it for? You need to keep in mind how sellable the car is, if you only plan on keeping it 1 - 3 years... It's a modded 10 year old car that is expensive. So it's a niche market and buyers will be few and far between for him and for you. There is nothing worse than struggling to sell a car & it dragging on for months and months. And 18k.. the cars 10 years old, irrespective of what mods he has, you can pickup an 07 for 25K. If you're that keen offer him 14/15, no more.

if you're really keen on the gearbox, i say that this is a good example; yes you can pick a GC8 up cheaper (14-15k), but it will cost you almost half the price of the car for the gearbox alone...

but knock the price down to 16/17k if you can, i've seen heavily modified cars sell for much less than advertised, just as perthzed was saying.

Thanks for the responses and the PM's (will respond later).

05+ STI would be a treat but my budget wont go that far, $25K at the most.

I would look to keep the car for 1-3 years covering around 30,000KMS a year including a fair amount of track work....big ask for an older car I know. After that time if I still like the car I would intend to retire it to a track only car, if not then I would move it on and buy something else.
