You SHOULD bother with a fully synthetic. It's not much more expensive and its a lot better. If you want to know why it's better, please google.

hey guys

just at malz today and stumbled on this oil, liqui moly 10w40. says only for european vehicles however have heard of people using german oils such as fuchs for example on their rexes.

Just wondering if anyone is using this oil + if the oil is fully synthetic? rrp is $50 at malz

here is a link to the oil (the first oil)

MOTOR OIL

Liqui-moly looks like good stuff actually, we do the odd BMW (terrible cars by the way) at work and we use the long life 5w30. Also use the liqui-moly power steering stuff in them.

its important to note that Subaru genuine fully synthetic is API SM rated, while the Liqui-moly is API SL rated. The higher the letter, the better the additve package.
I still use Subaru 5w-30 in my car, and its done 230000k's and it doesn't use a drop.

Liqui-moly does some good products like the heat spray we use on the rotary engines. Engine oil better use API SM rated on the Subarus --- like the ester-basedCusco 5W-40 we carry.

The same oil is used in Cusco's Time-attack Rex.

^ thanks john and mao...

i wasn't really paying attention to the API rating and tbh had no prior knowlege to this before hand. so thanks for the information. all i usually looked for was the weight and if it was fully synthetic ect.

i will stay clear of liqui-moly because of the api rating

currently using mobil super 2000 10w40 semi-synthetic, its my daily. thinking of going back to 5w. maybe its all in my head and people saying that 5w is too light for an engine that has done 100000km to 200000km.

how about for the start up however, does the weight have anything to do with that?

soon to be 195000 still going great

5w-30 will be fine in your engine, like i said, mines done 230000 and I still use it in my car.
I think there is a thread somewhere explaining what a viscoscity rating means, eg, 5w-30 means the oil has the properties of a 5w when cold and the properties of a 30w when at OT.
It will still protect at start up and a cold start as it flows easily, plus EJ engines have huge oil pressure when cold, plus the 5w allows the engine to get to OT quicker.

We don't carry Syntrax normally, we generally use Multitrax unless we have a customer who has a shifting issue, depending on the severety of the problem.
AFAIK its only available in 1L bottles
