What do you suggest as far as running the first heat cycle through them, not heard of that before.
I got 50% more life out of the 050's compared to 048's.

nothing compares to the 050's all round!!

We all however have different experiences and respond accordingly.

Had RE55s before and as much as liked the grip they didnt heat cycle that well and was recommended the 888 for good heat cycling and duralbility. Thats when I went to the dealer with intensions of trying the 888 and was advised the A048 would be my best option for what I wanted them for and how I was going to use them. At this moment I am starting to feel that I may have been guided in the wrong direction

I know a bunch of guys who swear the toyos last longer. I bought a set of 048s and loved them, but havent run 050s.

At the end of the day listen to the guys running similar cars to yours and only if they are willing to give you advice on ball park pressures. I believe you run considerably lower pressures with toyos than the yokies.

As for shelf life (as opposed to wear rate) I have run a 5 year old set and there is no doubt a drop off in performance but at least you wont shred them like usind a chunky road tyre.

You need to remember that the A050 and A048 fill different roles in the R Spec market.

The 50 is a sprint type tyre, good straight out of the box and good for shorter duration type events like hillclimbs etc etc. They do not really like repeated laps of a circuit.

The 048 is their race tyre, used for circuit races where they have time to heat up and can take the punishment of driving lap after lap etc etc.

If it's your first set of R Specs buy something like the R888 of 048 so you'll get some life out of them and you can start to understand them.

If you're experienced and want to get the quicker tyres and are only involved in shorter events go for the 050 or the DZ03 dunlop.
