Can't say personally that the pig nose is my favourite look on a Suby, but heh, any flavour of STI is better than driving some other brand.

You have had a sheltered automotive life if you believe that.

GTR: bright white thing passing you.
except they are expensive, heavy and impractical as a daily.

hence the sti ownership
its not the best, but the best mix and best $

"Gate" - A way of waste-gating the turbocharger. (internal or external). External is bliss, but really only required in HIGH boost applications.

"Straight-cuts" - As opposed to helical cut gearsets. Stronger, and an aural pleasure.

"Rotational" - A function of quality after market ECU's. (electronic or engine control units). Enables cars to run on 3 cylinders effectively. And again, pure aural bliss.

These 3 are infinitely more cooler than your atmosphere venting blow off valves/decals/cosmetic mods/etc.

And +1 for TJ's definition of dak-dok. The sound of fail. And for those not fully "block savvy" it can and does happen to EJ207's too. There is many more, but typing on an iPhone screen is just too fucken annoying.

Brent.

"Built" Motor = Custom built motor with aftermarket/stronger internals

"Forgies" = Pistons made using a forging process, the rough casting is placed in a die set while it is still hot and semi-solid. A hydraulic press is used to place the rough slug under tremendous pressure. This removes any possible porosity, and also pushes the alloy grains together tighter than can be achieved by simple casting alone. The end result is a much stronger material.

Factory EJ207 (Sti) Forged piston:

Aftermarket Forged Ej207 Piston (Wiseco)

(I reckon they are a work of art!)

"Hypercrap" Pistons = Hypereutectic pistons are made of an aluminum alloy which has much more silicon present than is soluble in aluminum at the operating temperature. Hypereutectic aluminum has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion, which allows engine designers to specify much tighter tolerances.

"Ringland" = the 'rib' of piston material between the piston ring grooves, made famous as a failure point in STi's with hypercrap pistons.

Ringland failure (Hyper crap piston)

"H-Beam", "X-beam", 'I-beam" Rods = Conrods with differing shank designs.

Clutches:

Organic clutch
: Fibrous clutch friction material - Oem fitment - gentlest on your driveline - lowest torque handling

Puck/paddle or Button clutch: Sintered bronze/ceramic friction material - Harsh/abrupt engagement - high torque handling but death to 5 speed boxes!

Hybrid or SSCC: Cushioned & sprung with ceramic friction material - middle ground between organic & full puck clutches - high torque handling - retains progressive engagement - safe for 5 speeds if not driven ham-fisted!

"twin plate": A clutch with 2 friction discs - highest torque handling - can be rattley depending on design- engagement harshness dependent on friction material used

i understand rotational idle is where each cylinder takes a turn each cycle to miss a "firing" cycle, but fuel is contined to be pumped into every cylinder anyway, its meant to help cylinders cool down after long, sexy boosting sessions, and the (cock erecting) sound it makes is the unburnt fuel firing on the next round. have i confused you yet? correct me if im wrong!!
