You still need to get a custom tune to make sure your AFR's are safe. The only problem with Ecutek is that you cannot change maps/boost without a boost controller or without going to your tuner to either flash the factory map back or a different map. Unlike the Ford/LS1 edits, once you flashed your ECU, your stuck with that tune and if any "fine-tuning" is required down the track, you have to take it back to your tuner.
I have also been researching for as long as you have Swannie and I think Motec is probably the best but too expensive. This leaves Link and Autronics. . I'm looking at similar mods to yours and I think best bang for buck - with the option to handle future mods is Autronic. With a bit of shopping around, its possible to have the Autronics ECU tuned and installed for just over 2K. My 2 cents... |

cheers for all ur in puts guys still sorta iffy about forking out for a new comp i know its worth it in a way but can't afford to in another
wats the apexi fc thingo?? is it similar to the safc?? the mods i listed are the goal to the car, don't intend to do anything else to it engine wise, but not sure if i will be able to complete that list, so cld be tbe, sti tmic, and pod and i'd be happy, just want something that will aid these mods and possibly intake pipe if makes much difference at all..... so just think a cheap fix will be better rather than buy a 2k comp with the option of being able to tinker around with and make many more mods effective when i don't intend to do them, i dunno hard to explain, best way i can say it is y spend 2k on a comp when i am only going to be useing half of its potental, seems a little wastefull

i think power fc is a proper ecu allows a full tune, whereas safc only allows you to modify the air/fuel ratio.
and i dun think the sti intercooler from the same year model will gain you anything. they have the same dimension, just different colour. just get yaself a silicon y pipe if you're gonna stick to the factory tmic. |

the 01+ tmic are slightly bigger than the gc8's, i remember some minor mod is required to get that fit into a gc8.
a water spray kit would increase your tmic's cooling efficiency. |
