Went over the pits today with my Bug.
Not allowed to run HID's even though STi's of the same year came out with them.
Cop's didn't pick them up, but the inspector did at the center.

The Subaru Impreza WRX STi Bug Eye Variant had OEM HIDs but only for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM). The HID's were taken out of the Australian Spec Variant as it did not comply with Australian Design Rules & specifically with ADR13.

Aus: STI Bugeye headlights use a H4 Globe, which is high and low beam in one bulb
JDM: STI Bugeye headlights split the beams. Low beam is a HID projector, high beam is a reflector

This is hence why a lot of Bugeye JDM STI Headlights are available on the Aus market for the conversion. You take the risk of being caught out when you make the conversion.

Advice needed guys. Contemplating buying this hid kit off a guy but have no idea whether it's plug and play for my bugeye. Can anyone confirm?

How much? Do you have halogen based projectors currently? For a HID retrofit you need to do a but of cutting on the back of the plastic screw cap from memory to get the rubber grommit in.

But for the most part, these were plug and play for me, brand new - can't go wrong. Slimmer ballasts too by the look of it.

Paid $140 for my low beam set, plug and play and a slight modification to make the grommet fit as Rich mentioned.

1 hour job if you know what you are doing.

$200 second hand is crack pricing.

EDIT; that kit has spade connectors on it from looking at the pictures....that will mean chop chop to your factory headlight harness. If it was me I would opt for plug and play.
