is the resonator the same as the catalytic converter?

also I have the Invidia N1 catback and so far it's pretty quiet on idle and not excessively loud so i've been wanting to get the catless dump pipe to make it TBE so leme know which one you go for...then again i do drive it daily and at night pass by a lot of cops :/

they are two different things and serve two different purposes, although from the outside they can sometimes look similar..

The resonator is typically a straight through pipe with perforations and packed with sound deading material. Used to change the exhaust note.

The cat converter has the catalyst material in the pipe itself and exposed to the exhaust flow. Used for emissions to remove nasty stuff in the exhaust fumes.

Hey abs....don't go catless, it's illegal in Australia for a road car I think.

$10,000 involuntary donations to the EPA if caught without a CAT

Aiball...from your pictures, it doesn't seem like the resonator would affect the exhaust at all, but maybe reduce the volume but not by much.

Hmmm more to think of now...

abs...I'm ordering it soon but wait for the Invidia to manufacture the AUDM model of the dumpipe, so like 4-5 weeks away from it arriving.
Also assuming your Invidia catback is the resonated version? and not the racing version...
I may just get the resonated one too now as it doesn't look like it would affect it much....just wonder if it does kill the race engine sound - have a look on youtube, the non resonated version sounds soooo nice!

Will let you know what its like

RJ999

Kinda hard to explain, but it does reduce volume as sound waves are absorbed as they go through the holes by the packing material.

I reckon go non resonated, it would be easy to add a resonator later on if it's too loud...

Exactly. A cannon muffler is a straight through design just like a resonator except with more packing

yeh i saw those AUDM downpipes on prospeed's fb page...

sorry to hijack thread but, would the catless downpipe be really that much lowder than a catted downpipe? and noticeable by police?

If you go catless, it's the smell that gives it away, not the sound
