Default 2006 wrx Intercooler and turbo upgrade

Hi all

I am now thinking of upgrading my 2006 wrx stock excluding 3'' exhaust system to a bigger turbo and intercooler. I would like to know if anyone has done the same and where you get it done and how much so I don't get ripped off.

Also what effects has it had on the car? I am thinking of a front mount intercooler?

Please let me know

cheers

Bin the front mount. You will need the to open your engine and do a heap of other supporting mods to install a turbo big enough that needs a front mount. A good combo on a stock rex is a VF34 turbo matched with either an sti or process west tmic. Fuck all lag but plenty of punch all the way to redline. But really it depends on how much power you want, which you have not said.

Yeah I bit more power I just want it to run well and fast. I heard top mounts are better as they get the air to the turbo faster are they are closer. I'm not sure how much power this would give me though? Also you have any ideas as to how much you should pay for an upgrade like this?

The turbo would he around the 1300buk mark. Secondhand sti tmic around the 300buk mark, or a process west tmic is 1000buks. You will prob want to do the fuel pump and injectors so another 300buks. And then 1000buks for a decent tune and the rest in labour for fitting the parts which i dont have a dollar figure for. You would prob get well above 250hp easy on 98.

You 'don't' have to pull the engine apart to get gains from a front mount. Where the fuck do you get your info from?

For Interests sake, my last wrx albeit the 2.0L, I was running Td05 18g, FMIC, injectors, Walbro 255, tbe, hks bov and a cai near enough to 260awhp and yes it was slightly laggy but was certainly lively enough when it spooled up.

The dyno numbers don't mean a whole lot though as i'm told that there's 20-30hp difference between different tuners. Depends on who you talk to.

My 2 cents get a tbe an sti tmic and fuel pump get it tuned see how you like it. If you're like the rest of us after about a month the car will feel slow again then upgrade things as you're funds allow. Also good to remember after you get your ecu re-flashed re-tuning cost will decrease significantly.

Agree'd. You dont have to pull the motor apart.

BUT, to get better preformance out of a front mount setup you would run a big turbo. Which will have a very long spool, and the old stock wrx engine doesnt like being revved extremely hard from what ive gathered. So to make use of any boost from a larger turbo you will want to build the engine stronger so you can rev it harder and longer. The way i look at things is do it once, do it properly. Sure he can run a front mount with a massive turbo on a stock engine. But who the fuck likes hitting full boost at 4500rpm then having to shift another 2000rpm later.
