ok guys, I heard somewhere that you have to alter some of the bell housing internals on a 5 speed box to fit a 6 speed clutch into it?

any pics, ideas or references?

never heard of this, subscribed tho, keen to know if it is actually possible so i can buy pmh's 6spd clutch for cheap & put in my bug

you definately can, was looking at the flywheel last night and might try to dry fit and see what hits...

so the starter motor all fits okay too? i thought that was where you'd come unstuck

having said that, i think you need a 6 speed starter motor

If memory serves there is some housing grinding required.

at the end of the day though craig as you would know the gearbox is the weakest link not the clutch, when i had the jdm motor the same as yours in my foz it never slipped with a doug spec full faced organic clutch

or is it just out of convenience, ie you have one sitting there that came with the motor?

I've done it at a customer's request against my advice. It's shit. It looks like shit, it smells like shit....it is shit.

Basically there's nothing a 6 speed clutch can do that you can't achieve with the 5 speed clutch that fits in without any vandalism. (I will concede that the 6 speed clutch/flywheel assembly is better than a 5 speed one, just not that much better that it's worth the effort)
