It's worth remembering that the handbrake will disengage the centerdiff.

Lol nice...actually I've never tried handbrake cornering my STI yet...think I was a bit scared of what might happen lol ...perfect timing for this tip, looking forward to that track day now

I leave it in auto 99.9% of the time even on the track.. easier to do skids imo
Mine doesn't skip/"chirp" in auto only if you select the dccd from green to lock - on slow tight turns or reverse.

Assuming you have coilovers?
Also it only happens at round abouts like full pressure on the front left tyre with standard struts the whole weight of the car goes on that shaft...and DCCD centre diff tries to compensate hence the big jerk. With coilovers it sits rather flat and you won't get the same type of jerk as diff doesn't have to work like that, weight is evenly distributed. EDIT: only happens when trying to floor it through a round about like 180 turn or 360, going with much more speed than usual(like ~45-50km/hr and trying to maintain that speed) then in the apex of the turn the weight of the whole car transfers completely to the left front as it relies on this tyre alone to control the grip as the other ones don't have enough weight/road contact...you get a front/back jerk/skip in the car and it throws you off a bit, almost makes you think that the car is going to lose grip or skip over to the next lane

Now that you've explained it like that it doesn't sound normal to me.
Shouldn't make a peep when cornering at that speed in auto mode.

DCCD is front to rear distribution only, it doesn't have any yaw distribution to individual wheels. Your theory of coilovers having an effect on this makes no sense. On auto it's pretty smooth and I don't think it would ever go full 65/35 distribution so I doubt you'd notice it.
With stock struts in my 05 I never got any DCCD knocking in auto. Even in lock the knocking is at the centre diff not individual wheels Get it checked out Last edited by Sharpy.au; 26-11-2013 at 08:10 PM. |

Mine doesn't so this, but compared to when I got it it's now an orchestra of rattles, clunks, shudders and knocks.. It drove me crazy for over a year trying to work it all out and make it civil again but I've grown to accept it as a mish mash of mods and hard floggings. Ive always thaught damaged front cv from dodgy launches but I've had them inspected by 3 different workshops and they all say they are fine.. I'll prob replace them some time next year just for peace of mind

Even Sti's aren't designed with kerb tapping in mind. As mentioned get it checked properly, especially with a track day coming up.
