Go a V8 STi one. Plugs straight in.
I put a Version 8 JDM STi one in mine, (180kp/h), direct fit, direct plug in. No worries. I've heard some of the later model ones require more mucking around, wiring, pinouts, splicing etc.

Only thing i noticed was the fuel gauge isn't 100% accurate, maybe 95%~ .. Diff Temp light comes on (As no diff temp sensor on WRX).

Speedo/Rev works. Rev Limit Alarm works, Outside Temp works.

This was on a MY01 too.

Just on the fuel guage thing, on my MY00 I have dropped in a JAP STI cluster and the fuel guage is out by about 1/4 (25%). Half tank on the guage is 1/4 in the tank. Must a thing when putting Subaru Jap clusters into AUS cars?

Yeah dunno bro. Not sure what size tank is in the JDM units compared to the ADM ones. It's weird. Sometimes it shows up as full, other times it doesn't. Not a biggy though.

I thought jdm and audm guage clusters were opposite in every way? Went to fit a jdm cluster to my audm wrx of the same year (97) cos my fuel guage shit itself, and everything was opposite. Speed swapped with revs and temp swapped with fuel.

May be different for different MY's - Just saying that with my experience, the Version8 (MY03 STi Peanut) JDM dropped into a AUDM MY01 WRX like a dream.
