Subaru allowed the butler tbe and ecutek tune as a package if they organised it at time of sale - all covered under factory warranty. The only two companies that Subaru did this with that I know of are Racetorque and Maximums. I believe they allowed it because ecutek would supposedly cover the engine if no other mods were performed and there was an issue.

I must disagree with you on that one. I can think of a few cars on here that would have aftermarket LC and taken better care of than many others without it.

^Agreed. Don't get hung up on the LC thing mate, go and test drive the cars and get a feel for them. I test drove six G3 STi's before settling on mine.
I wanted a spec-R but the three that I drove were clearly flogged. The other three base models were all pretty good overall. By the time I bought mine I was used to their little noises, quirks and character and was confident of my choice. Still would have like a spec-r though... Good luck.
