16-18 good safe conservative level that allows for all situations . Running higher boost with wound back timing is something a good tuner wont do its a waste of time.
A boost level with timing that provides good AFR and no knock will drive 100 times better then turn the boost up and keep winding timing back to control Knock. You should be chasing drive ability and a nice big consistent hump on the dyno sheet the more space below the line on the sheet nice and wide . Chasing numbers or certain boost pressures is never a good way to tune . |

How longs a piece of string? Engine longevity has far to many factors to put an approximate time frame on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My '08 (with a VF52) runs 16.7psi
It doesn't like any more. Every car is different, and what JRecardo said - your tuner will typically tune it for between 16 and 18psi.

2009 WRX - Recommended Performance & Handling Mods
Oh yeah, mines an STI, so internals, turbo, TMIC etc are different - sorry, didn't think of that. Just checked my chart from Sean and I'm at 18.7. The eBay spec boost gauge I installed displays around 20 peak.

I have now had everything installed and the tune done. Dyno results attached.
The red lines on the graph are what I was getting straight after the tbe and tmic were installed (done elsewhere). Don't have a stock baseline. First graph shows a 30kW gain and shows the boost. Target boost is 17psi but this tapers off towards redline to about 15/16 psi. My tuner said this is just the turbo not being able to keep up at higher RPM. The green line prior to the tune shows boost was spiking due to the improved flow of the tbe. Second graph shows torque gains. It shows peak torque is now around 475Nm but not sure how accurate this is. (You will note a different customer ID up the top of the chart because he had another car on the dyno when he was printing out this second graph. My ID and times of runs are still the same down the bottom.) Overall I am pretty happy with how it drives. It is noticeable difference over stock and the q300 sounds awesome but I was expecting the gains to feel more significant than they do (maybe my expectations were too high). I have a couple of issues now too that need investigating: - tuner could not save changes to AVCS tables and thinks the AVCS might not be working (I am taking this to Subaru to have a look at). Will have to go back for a touch up tune once this issue is sorted. - CEL light has now come on and idle seems a bit rough at times and inconsistent. CEL first came on when the TBE and TMIC were installed and I had to drive it to the tuner. Tuner got rid of first CEL when he did the tune and said the fault was related to catalytic converter efficiency or something. I have driven it and it has been fine since Friday but it came on this morning during idle I think (at least that's when I noticed it). Last edited by Psych 101; 17-05-2015 at 12:41 PM. |

What does a stock one of these make at the wheels? 193kw @ 17psi with zorst and IC? Impressive.
