Sorry to hear this Dave. Someone obviously wants you to aim for 9's!!! ;-)
I have come across a few threads in the US where people had valve failure. I can't remember the brand though. Some springs, beehive from memory, also had issues with binding at high rpm. It seemed to be a short production run issue as many cars used the same components later and don't seem to have had the same failure modes. |

Sourced a new pair of heads from someone on Antilag. Complete heads with cams, covers AVCS pulleys etc for $400 which I thought was bargain.
Anyway. I've still no idea why a valve dropped. It certainly wasn't a build issue and I put the timing belt on following particular attentions to the method of rotating the LH cams in opposite directions when timing it up. Anyway I'm stumped, but this makes interesting reading. Cosworth official answer after their engine`s large valve head failure - Page 2 - NASIOC

OK so here's the damage.
Havent got a fucking clue what caused the valve head to just break off as there isn't any sign of piston to valve contact on the other cylinder. To fix it i'm going to need a new set of valves, a new set of pistons (oversize) and a rebore and probably all new lifters again.

You really don't half arse it Daz, you build them tough and then break in a equally impressive manner
Can't wait for you to start putting it back together, time to go harder and faster!

Seems no matter how well you build it, the 2.5 will always find a way to self destruct
That's some nasty damage though. I hope the repair goes smoothly and you get back on the road. |

They seem to last when they are sub 350 - 360hp (pistons, rods, etc), but any engine pushing 600HP or more to the wheels only takes the smallest defect or problem to turn into a big problem quickly.
At the end of the day the EJ207 is the proven yardstick for big power and Daz is one of a few guys in WA with big powers EJ257 and even with his expertise, knowledge and skills it has been an uphill battle.
