How do front fog lights blind on coming traffic? By definition a fog light is a spread beam which is aimed low.

My pet hate is dickheads who drive around with the rear fog light on.

as long as you have a red light for brakes, amber for indicating and white for reversing you shouldnt have any problems!

Its because (I believe) the light is undirectional - it just goes all over the place - I havent ever been "blinded" but it can be annoying.

I'm going to transplant some 1000W Hella Road Train lamps into my foglights just for a laugh, and to annoy people even more

i've never once been 'blinded' or more than slightly distracted by foglights.
i've been pulled over for having them on, and have been passenger in cars that have been pulled over for the same reason.
each time the officer's reasoning was, well... non-existant - it is simply illegal, and we should therefore not question it.

in my case it was 2am and obviously very dark with no traffic on the roads, and i genuinely wasn't aware of the foglight law.

"why have you got your foglights on!?"
"hi, good evening. is there a problem with them?"
"show me your drivers license and turn them off."
*shuffles through wallet to produce drivers license*
"TURN THEM OFF! don't you know how to turn them off, how long have you had this car?!!"
"i've had this car for one week." i handed him my license.

having generously given me 3.54 seconds to both provide him with my license and turn the foglights off, it was at this point that the friendly officer proceeded to reach through my window for the foglight switch..
"THAT is how you turn them off, OK!" his face 2 inches from mine.

first and only time i've been pulled over in any car.
clearly an unbiased attitute toward a young wrx driver...

if it is illegal to drive with them on then why isn't is made compulsory for manufactureres to have them wired so they only come on with high beams and can't operate with only lows? would save alot of confussion. WRX fog lights are weak as piss anyway and are alot less annoying than ones on commodores falcons and some euros. they are particularly annoying on 4wds because obviously they sit higher up

It's *not* illegal to have them on, it's only illegal to have them on if the weather conditions don't warrant it - ie, driving with them on in the midday of summer with no fog / no rain etc.

So the question comes down to what are "suitable weather conditions" to have them on and your opinion will no doubt differ to that of the friendly officer that pulls you over.
