The [RETSEJ] project

So I thought I'd start a thread on the project that is to be [RETSEJ]. I'll update it as time goes when more is done.

If you remember or don't care about my last car, skip this first bit. For those that are new and don't remember my last car, here is a little bit of history....

I sold her in about June before I went to Europe for a month. 1 of 30 Australian delivered 1988 Mazda 323 GTX's, not your little wheazy carby fwd job, a rally bred 1600cc turbo 4wd. The homologation model for the car that won the very first rally australia in 1988. I did a bit of work to it (more than the purchase price  ) and some motorsport (with help & thanks to Technik Car Audio), but it was eventually time to move on.

So that brings us to my new project. A few months back I purchased a virgin donor car, a 1993 Impreza GX, 1.8L auto, FWD. Straight as hell (i took a measuring tape!) a few little dings here and there but the same owner for ages and a good service history (not that the engines condition mattered that much :) ) $4k later, she was in my drive way.

Pimpin' oh yeah
While saving & deciding on the main cut, i picked up a few goodies

Genuine new JDM STi tail lights, MY99/00 wing

whored forums etc and picked up a selection of front & rear bumpers

But basically as i hadn't decided what cut i was going to get, i tried to stay away from any suspension / engine component that was model specific.

Popped down to JWS today with a wad of cash, and made a purchase. ooh yeah.

2006 JDM Legacy GT-B.

2L, VF38 twin scroll, 4.11 5spd manual, AVCS on both the inlet and the exhaust, drive by wire, you name it, its got all the fruit. from what i can gather, 9.5:1 compression and a semi closed deck, 330mm front brakes (will drop brembos on eventually, half way there!), all for propelling a 1500kg car, and it all goes into my 1140kg gx shell :D Claims on the stock performance are full torque by 2400 rpm, i imagine it will be quite the torque rocket when we are finished playing with it :P

and the best bit? found a jap flare in the footwell :P

I'll be updating the interior to Ver5/6 spec, bought a jdm dash today (with the tacho in the middle), got a dash sorted, need doors. The prick is going to be splicing the JDM GT loom with the Ver6 loom to make stuff work. Fun times ahead!

Exterior wise... as i plan to do motorsport i will smarten it up, probably go Ver6 front end with some fruit and some rims, make it look racey to try attract sponsors! but thats once it gets running =)

Keep the GX body kit and hubcaps and make it a sleeper. :D Scare the shit out of STIs and EVOs at the traffic light GPs.

Looks good. Twin scroll torque in a light as a feather GC8 shell should really fly.

that thought definitely did occur to me, but i doubt i'd get many sponsors :P not sure if 14" hubbies will clear the brembo's either =)

The old mazda does bring back memories, matt. Best was the bolt that came onto the AHG track during your lap!
Look forward to your progress report on the new RETSEJ. Let me know if you need a hand or bits.
