dude thats not right, i had my wrx insured with rac at 18. clean record, was 1800 and it was insured fro 20k then went down to 1400 but had a crash and went back up to 1800, at 4200 its not even worth having the car especially a 96 rex worth 16k.... cant believe your willing to pay that.

Hey mate,

If you ring up your insurance company, advise them of all your mods to your vehicle and they agree to cover you (make sure they message the policy with these, also all phone convo's are recorded unless you request otherwise), then come claim time they can't turn around and go, no sorry we won't cover you for the mod if they have already agreed to take on the insurance when u advised them of this. Again, don't leave anything out, tell them everything.

Will we still get paid out by insurance companies in a crash or otherwise?

Few things, 1 what mods are you running? 2 how long have you been driving? What suburb you living, have you had any accidents?

Just did a quick quote for you comes up at around 2.9k

With illegal mods i would say all insurers could decline a claim as the vehicle is not upto road safety standards.

Who are you insured with mate.
I'm insured with Just Car and i just informed them of my upgrades, being a larger turbo and turbo back exhaust. They said no worries, its costin me an extra $50 premium per year but thats no sweat. I just wanted to make sure they couldn't stooge me for something which i have told them about.

Just got my renewal with hbf, work this shit out... MY99 Auto rex
Optional/Specified Items - Stereo $1400 & Wheels $2200

Coverage May 07 to May 08
40% NCB
Agreed Value - $24,360
Yearly: $1,656.60 Monthly: $138.05

Renewal for May 08 to May 09
Gone up to 50% NCB
Agreed Value been dropped by 3k - $21,360
Yearly: $1,280.05 Monthly: $106.67

Can't work out how increasing the NCB and dropping the Agreed Value only equates to $30 a month difference, thought it'd be under $100 a month. Thoughts? Should I query it?

Josh

Josh, what you have got to understand is that a drop of 3k in si doesn't = lower prems mate, infact what you will notice is a nice increase in prems every year (most of the time). Everything goes up mate, food/fuel etc. Its the way of the world aka Inflation. Just because you didn't claim the last year doesn't mean that your insurance prem will go down. Just be happy that infact it has actually gone down. You will reach a point where you are at max ncb, your age loading is gone, and infact prem will go up while si (sum insured) still goes down.

I'm toying with the idea of dropping the si to lower the premium a bit, but in my experience it doesnt seem to drop it much. I also thought that turning 25 last august would've finally put me in a lower premium bracket.

hahah, depends on the insurance company man, age loading can sometimes be up to 30 with some companies, and then it start again around your 60 lol. Prob not work it, give your insurance company a ring, drop the si 5k and see how much diff it makes (prob 100 bucks which is f all for 5k). Ring round insurance companies and see what they can offer you. Also bear in mind that price isn't everything. Make sure they you are confident in the insurance company you are with. You want a hassle free claims process, what would you rather. $100 less but you have to chase your company round to get shit fixed or $100 more and not have to worry about a thing if you have an accident. All personal pref to people. Every Insurance company has "horror" stories as such (example meg and her wrx) and I’m sure every company has positive stories, unfortunately most of the time most people only see this when it comes claim time. Be aware of the people you need to talk to. there are some instances where the company call centre may be in W.A but their claims dept is over East, 2 hours diff can but a huge problem if they are only open 9-5 est.
