The Butler exhausts are well regarded custom built exhausts so they are not cheap.

Plenty of guys on here have the 'China Spec' turbo back exhausts and they are very happy with them for the sub $1,000 price tag - fully fitted. You can always go for something like that, or something in between the China / custom built categories like an X-Force system. Or you could try find something second hand as some people swap and change systems.

To be honest, the brand won't make much of a difference in terms of power/torque at the power levels that you'll be getting from an exhaust + intake + tune. Just make sure that it is 3" or 3.5" and turbo back!

Ok thanks for that, any ideas where to get a X-Force system from in WA, as in a reputable supplier and installer?

I'd speak to Allstar Garage and a couple of the Mettam's mufflers shops to see what their fitted price is. Speak to them about what you want and how much you are willing to spend and go from there. If you have any questions about 3" vs 3.5", cannon vs oval muffler, stainless vs mild steel etc after you speak to them, let us know

You can also buy directly from the distributor and get someone else to fit it. Performance Automotive Distributors at 2/59 Holder Way in Malaga (92491900) are the distributors - their price for parts was excellent, but installation was pretty steep.

Got advised by Maximum Motorsport that a TBE on a pignose will cause a few CEL issues?

if it's just a cel and there's no actual issue, which i can't imagine there would be; it would be worth copping an orange light for a while and getting a good exhaust, rather than getting a cheap exhaust because you can't justify forking out the money for a tune at this time (which can be foregone).

it's up to you though, your car

I wouldn't be putting a TBE on an 06+ without tuning it. Sure, babying it around 'shouldn't' cause damage but the AFRs go all over the shop and that's an unnecessary risk to take. If you want a more expensive exhaust, wait and do it all together.

Also, here are a few threads of other 06/07s going through early mods:
