Default Newbie Introduction

Hi Guys!

My name is Cam, about 8 weeks ago i bought my one and only dream car!!! a blue 2004 stock standard (hopefully i can change that) wrx. I effin love it! Since i was a wee lad ive wanted one sooo badly - my parents even bought me little models of them to keep me calm haha.

I guess thats about it for my background. I decided to join perth wrx to hopefully get some advice from all you guys in the know about a few things.

1. where the hell do you guys go to get fog light covers and STi scoops etc etc? I've spoken to wreckers and looked on ebay and theyre all either out of stock, VERY expensive or have a carbon fiber pattern which (i think) would look shithouse on my rexi.

2.(and this is the most important question) I want to slowly built up my rex into a killer rocket ship. however i also dont want to go so far over board that it becomes a track car only. Ive spoken to some garages and they reckon i should start with an engine tune followed by a bigger ball bearing turbo (im not very clued up when it comes to cars so forgive me if i mess up the names of parts - hopefully ya'll will educate me) but this costs around $4-5k. Sooo my question is: what are the most price efficient, and effective (in terms of power output) modifications that i should start looking at?

Cheers for any advice!

Ps ive never been a member on a forum before so apologises if i post something in the wrong place etc etc

You can get fog light covers painted in WRC blue from Subaru for cheap enough..

Great first post mate!

There is plenty of information on the forum already and most things can be found out with a search. Just try different key words etc. Also its really good to follow build threads for good ideas. See what is good power that wont be over the top.

Personally think that 200-210kw at the wheels is perfect! I have that and its great. Not over the top for the engine to.

For your car i would surgest going twin scroll turbo. Get a vf37-36 and you will love it! Should cost about 2k and then another 1.5k for tuning and new sti TMIC.

Welcome mate, enjoy the forums, I'd start looking at breathing mods for your car first as they're generally the cheapest bang for your buck and have to be done to get any real gains out of other performance add-ons (you will of course have to partner these up with either a tune 'site search Verso/Ecutech', or aftermarket computer.

Just remember to lay down a good quality foundation with your modding and look at what other people are doing to get the kind of performance you're looking for, as you'll find the most expensive option isn't always the best option.

Hope to see you at some cruises.

Cheers,

Welcome. As others have mentioned, look at what other people have done on here. There are many different levels achieved on various budgets, and this should give you a better idea as to what you would like to get out of your car.

EDIT: Or just go nuts, it seems to be a growing trend of late.

Drive the car for a while and get used to it. Then get a Turbo back exhaust, a fuel pump, a cold air intake and a verso tune. After getting used to your car at stock you will really notice and appreciate the difference. This should cost 3-4k depending on quality of parts.

The next step would a bigger turbo, a bigger intercooler and possibly some injectors. With an tweak to your verso tune to suit you are looking at 3.5k anywhere upto 10k depending on quality again and brand. These mods can have you taking the current HSV range in a straight line...
