2k isn't so bad. Especially that you've gotten the dealer to cut the price by 2.5k! Sounds like not too bad of a deal then!

thanks mate,

I didnt get a towie to get it home i drove it as its only 5-10km in traffic...

Was a nice drive, tiny bit of oil dripped from the bottom of the gearbox like the drain plug or something, so that should be cleared up im sure with the rest of the gerabox woes...

Also the guy that owned it before me either did the worst wiring job ever for the headunit...if u bump the centre console the tweeters stop etc...thats just a weekend job i guess...

handles much better than the 4wd

Personally wouldn't go down this route but would be curious what the retail on one of those would be.

i think i remembered he said maybe 3-4k or so if you can even find one...thats just for the 5 speed.

I have been doing some reading, the gearbox oil is quite overfilled even when its cold... and that may be the reason for the very slow leak (about 4-5 drops) in the whole night and only when i ran it...

I would drain some out and try it again to see if it makes a difference, it definitely gets worse as the car warms up (maybe to do with the oil and gearbox expanding)...

Default Gday 2000 wrx Wagon

Hello all,

Well Car is back now from Stechnic,

Turns out it was a couple of bent/dented teeth on the transfer gears that was making the noise....appears someone damaged them in a vice or ramming it somewhere they shouldnt have gone...

Sooo my initial quote of 2500 to take a look and repair the gearbox was brought down to under 1000...

With the extra money (had 2500 taken of the sale price for this reason) I got timing belt and CV/steering boots + gearbox seals etc all done as well as usual oils and service...

Ended up under budget which is awesome.

Well The car is a white wagon, ill put up some pics later when i get some..

Currently is stock besides a magnaflow muffler and a hole someone cut in the front of the airbox...

Im doing the sound system rewiring now as it was a dodgey job done before hand and it was shorting out whilst driving or if u bumped the centre console..

The car still has a whine like it has straight cut gears (however its alot more quiet) Stechnic going to call me about that today.

No idea how many k's the cars done as unfortunately i didnt realise whe i bought it but the odomoter has been changed to a jap one reading 120 000km, however i guess its close to that due to the condition of the car and the fact the timing belt in it was new..It had been tensioned to tight so worn through the back of the belt...

Im not sure about further mods...I might not be doing any, just leave it as nice and stockish, car needs to make it up to exmouth and back over christmas and then will be my daily driver.

I hope to meet up with you guys on the next cruise and take a squiz at all the cars on this forum.

Thanks

PS. I have to say Stechnic were amazing in their turnover time, brought the car in and in one day they had the gearbox out and dismantled, problem troubleshooted and were ready to call me back to come in the next day to pick it up..I would be VERY suprised if other workshops had found those transfer teeth bent as it was only slight but enough to give it a clunking noise on decel.

It's always great when you've budgetted for a repair and it turns out to be a much smaller incident =D
