Default Newbie - 99RX

Hi guys,

Have a 99 RX in rally blue. Have upgraded the suspension to lowered springs on to 17 inch rims. WRX stock exhaust (for free) which actually does give a pretty good subaru burble. Anyway, Haven't done much but in doing little have seen quite a few cool things on the forums so thought I'd join up. And yes would love an STi but mortgages are bastards of things - one day.

Just buy a half cut and swap swap. What could possibly go wrong?

And welcome too.

I wasn't using Sarcastica so my remark seems to have flown high, however I too am keen as to said $500 half cuts.

Default Advice

Well I'm getting more interested in the swap swap. Having talked to a few people on here I have been talked out of it, talked in to it, and now not sure again. To me the cost is a bit but nothing too bad. I have already swapped to 4/1 pot brakes front to rear, done the rear sway, so sounds like to go the extra power upgrade from here is swap. Am I right in saying its a case of swapping ecu, engine and turbo, harness, crossmember, and exhaust? SO half cut seems easiest way to go. Compression test the only thing to watch out for for half cuts?

I know people are saying it nuts to go ahead but given its engine swap is the next logical step, it means part with car or swap. So if you could get your hand on the stuff for a few grand it seems like it might be worth it (and the many many hours of work to complete the change over). Just checking I'm not missing a major step.

Also as seagull pointed out a half cut makes the swap easier, if you how everything is bolted up then seems to make sense.

Theres also a few interesting Gc8's on gumtree at the moment for $5K or $6K but I guess you don't know what your buying.

And cheers to all the guys that have given me parts to help us through the build.

And I know someone is going to say this thread is similiar to many others, but just want some input from guys that have done, or half done and given up on a swap and what the pitfuls were. Any advice appreciated.
