Default Help!! WRX2011 noise at 3000

Hey all, new user, new post.....

So, bought myself a new WRX 2011 a couple of years ago from... i guess i cant mention the dealer.

over a year ago i notice a noise coming from the engine at exactly 3000 rpm, its some sort of rattle and is most noticeable in 3rd gear but occasionally heard in 2nd and 4th.
It does not happen every time you drive the car but i can hear it about 70% of the time, when accelerating. sounds like it has something to do with the turbo as it is always at 3000 when turbo is spooling.

I have taken it back to the dealer several times, they always say they cannot hear the noise and they return the keys (stick there head in the sand)
The foreman has been out on a test drive with me 3 seperate times and says he can hear the noise.

recently they had my car in for 1 week and they tell me the noise is coming from a heat shield, which they say they have removed and have a new one on order.
Not a day later the noise is back!!!

the cars warranty is near expiration and the car has only done 20K, no mods...

If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated, going out of my mind here!!!!!

Thanks Ashwa

Why don't you try one of the workshops listed here I am sure someone will be able to figure it out.

Wastegate flutter? I dont know anything about the 2011 wrxs, but my 07 rex used to flutter alittle bit just before the turbo began to built boost. It could be mistaken for a rattle as i guess thats basically what it is. Does it sound similar to this http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5VGlKWL0AJw(i had my
Phone cable tied behind the pedals recording)

Here is my thread on it.

You need to film the noise properly and put it on a usb stick, hand it over the the dealer.

My wife and I had to do this before Honda would replace our starter motor under warranty, they did the head in the sand routine several times also.

Do not back down if you have proof. They must rectify the problem if there is one.

To me it sounds like they are just wasting time for warranty to run out before they discover the "apparent issue". Once it runs out, they will then discover the issue in which you should prepare your anus.

Keep on them as per above & record the problem & provide it to dealer. If you provide this & still get the run around. Step up & get in contact with Consumer Protection (Department of Commerce) or seek legal assistance.

^^ Seeking legal assistance will cost you more than just getting the damn thing fixed at S-Technic.

If you read correctly Mitch, I said to seek Legal assistance further should the dealer (& or Subaru) continue to play the run round game & go into the out of warranty period. Contacting Department of Commerce will give them advice also as stated.

If It's a warranty problem with the manufacturer, why should the person cough up the funds to have another workshop fix the problem in the warranty period? Still out of pocket either way.

Yeah I agree fuck all the legal shite. If the dealer acknowledges the issue before warranty expiry they still have to honour it.

If dealer gives you the run around one email or phone call to Subaru Australia with the dealer details will sort it.

Subaru Wangara have always been good to deal with in my experience. ( I hope they aren't the ones stalling you )

Thanks for your comments All!
I have asked for a full report from the dealer as to what work/investigation was carried out on the car in the week they had it, as nothing has changed - this seems to be proving difficult for them as they havent managed to come up with anything in over a week, not even managing to return my calls..

It totally amazes me how a reputable dealer can be so arrogant about the whole thing!!

I am now waiting a response from Subaru Australia...

Do what I did - spend stupid money on car audio and you won't have to put up with any nuisance sounds
