Default Car making weird howling noise...

inb4itsyerturbonewb

Ok, so since day 1 of having this car, there's been this odd noise, and it happens when in gear, when driving, with the clutch engaged and disengaged, and when in neutral just sitting there.

The easiest way to explain the noise, is, when you get a glass bottle, and blow into it to make the windy noise, thats exactly what it sounds like.

My first thought was the spigget bearing in the gearbox was making that noise, and a mechanic I went to said the same thing.

But I doubt it could be that bearing seeing as it happens with clutch disengaged and out of gear anyway.

It doesn't affect performance, there's nothing different about how the car drives, its just a f**king annoying noise, that is tempermental.

Sometimes itll start when I take off, and get what seems to be a faster whistle the faster i go. Sometimes when I just sit there at the lights in neutral it'll start doing it slightly, and sometimes I can drive the car for a few hours and not hear it at all....

Honestly, it's hard to tell unless you hear it first person, but i'm just wondering if anyones had similar experiences?

- It's not the aircon, it happens with both aircon on and off.
- The turbo spools fine, it's a completely different noise and doesn't come from that at all.

- The noise at first, I thought was coming from the gearbox, but someone who sat in the back seat claimed they thought it was coming from my back left tyre.

If it happens when in neutral, idling, whilst stationary, i doubt it's your back left tyre....
I've got no idea what it is... but have you checked:
Fuel pump?
All belts?
Drop and replace gear all?

Haven't tried anything, the car is still under the warranty from when I got it like 3 weeks ago from the dealership, so it's booked in next wednesday, and I assume i'll lose the car for a few days, but just really curious as to what it is.

My tire made a howling sound on my last car, due to fault with tire and the garage rotated the tires and said the sound would eventually go away with some wear of the tire and it did.

it could quiet possibly be a very dirty Air filter. And as you speed up and the car try's to get more air in so it would get louder

The howling noise isn't like a sucking noise, it's kind of like something is rubbing against something else, or similar.

It's hard to explain what it is, but it does sound like it's some sort of bearing...

Problem is, whilst the car is booked in next wednesday, if it doesnt make the sound then, when I want it to, then it wont get fixed.
