This is best short term advise!

Redline will help with the grinding and noise
Basically provides a coating
Buys you time

But...if you see bits of metal in your oil...well...it's a just a matter of time
Mind you synchros are likely to be the one to go before the tooth but it is a subi box, the whole thing is a bit of a cheese if not looked after/driven well

i don't see a point going PPG gearsets since there is a maintenance cost over time with them
for a cheaper option, the STi 6MT is the way to go
there's the "half way" option with the 6MT (R160 diff with centre to suit, resuse shafts, etc) and the full hog (R180 diff, shafts, etc)

all this should align with your overall goals
6MT can handle a shitload of HP
aftermarket gearsets does give a bit of street cred

For reference - Doug at Stechnic advised that the 6MT doesn't like the Redline Shockproof gearbox oil where as the 5MT does.

I had a call out mechanic to come out and have a look at it. He said that it should be fine for the time being, to keep an eye on it and that if it gets worse to get it replaced or rebuilt. He suggested changing the oil but realised that an oil change had recently been done and that it was high quality oil so didn't bother. He fixed up the short shift kit for me cause it was only half engaging on 1st gear. After seeing him do it once I can do it myself quite easily.. And didn't own loto. I just have no billsor dependants and a gf who pays for some of my shit so I can waste money on things like cars besides I would be buying a Ferrari if I did (:
