I have sent an email to McRae Motorsports to enquire about the use of plastic vs concrete bollards.
See what they say...

lower the risk v reward ratio and increase participation - simple really.
I'm with Freddo on this.

That's the thing, they are pretty much running at capacity as it is. Near on 70 cars each event.

I think the problem is the event is designed for caged targa cars, but the license for rallysprint allows L2S drivers in uncaged cars, allowing a driver to get a taste of the racing.
It's chock full of targa cars, so I don't think they will worry too much if the risk is too much for those of us with road going cars. This is the main reason I bought the GC8 as I wouldn't be a happy camper if I wrote off the Evo X at the track. The concrete wasn't too much of an issue for me, but then again I drive pretty slow.

The concrete etc is where the challenge is. Driving within your own limits but trying to improve your time and keeping your codriver, yourself and the car safe.
Events like these (and rallies) shows driver skill. Being able to deal with the variables and a patch of road that can't be remembered is why tarmac rallies are becoming so popular. |

I know what you're saying Danny, but you can still get the challenge (at some of the corners) by using a plastic bollard or drum or hay bale instead - if you get it wrong you will incur a time penalty (assuming you can make it to the finish line) and probably damage your car/yourself to much lesser extent. Why exacerbate the risk when you don't need to?
