The wide ovals are great! Been driving on them for a few days now. The understeering i had with the near bald tyres is gone (were about half a mm from legal limit), very grippy, and minimal noise! I tried a few times to make the tyres screech doing a fast corner, but to no avail... which is good.

I recommend them for those who want a cheaper tyre that does the job.

This is the rating from this US website:
FIRESTONE FIREHAWK WIDE OVAL: RADIAL, Traction AA, Temp A, Wear 320

And this is how they rate against other tyres in its category. If you look at the info supplied by users, the Avon Tech M500's are rated highest in the UHP-summer group, and going by the test displayed in the link above, the wide oval's are rated better. I realise the user rating may only be subjective, but look it, look it!!!!

Sorry for the long post, i just really like these tyres.

I was looking for tyres recently and went to that Tirerack site. The Avon chap in Sydney told me that the Avon techM500 is a Tirerack exclusive and not available in Aus.

I'm wondering the same thing.

So indecisive i am, tossing up between 4 or 5 different tyres...
Looks like i'll do 17x8.5's now instead of 18's.

I don't think the Advan range are actually available in Australia, other than the R-comps like the A032 and A048, and *I think* the standard tyres on the Evo8 are A046 but can't be sure. The Advan Neova range are supposed to be really good street tyres though, I've the AD06 and they are very sticky, but they have been superceded by the AD07.

For the best bang for buck performance tyre choice, I *personally* don't think you can look past the Falken GRB FK451.

Yeah i'm pretty sure the EVO VIII wears the A046. I think they're 235's. Nice

Just ordered a couple of Hankook Ventus K107 for the front. Anyone running these?
