So i just bought an "EJ207" crate motor that came from Subaru, it has the A and B marked pistons but is open deck with only two points from the cylinder joining the water jacket as opposed to the 6 which i believe is the semi closed deck (plus the one joining the two cylinders) Im a bit worried im getting shafted with a EJ205 instead. It also looks identical to the EJ205 that came out of my car.??? Even the engine that came from my car (standard 03 WRX had the A and B marked pistons whick look like the "forged" once depicted in this thread and dont have the square bit at the top.

Im confused!

Take it to a reputable shop and ask for their opinion. You really want a semi closed block. Why not take some pictures and post them up?

Sorry, should have taken a closer look at the magazine cut out on page 3.... yep seems im getting shafted with an ej205 it was the hyper crap pistons that threw me off, they look very similar to the forged ones. Luckily they haven't started the build yet.

No square.... seems to have the hyper crap pistons??? thats what got me all confused but its definatly open deck so i dont want it. But even the engine that came out of the car has the hyper crap pistons so maybe the EJ205 now comes with them too.

Its through workshop so wont be paying for an EJ207 that didn't arrive. I will be insisting they send the engine back to subaru and source me a real EJ207. Mainly spewing cause my car will be off the road even longer while this shit gets sorted out.

Just spoke to the workshop and they and subaru have twigged to the fact that the wrong engine was sent... all getting sorted now Lucky i was on the ball and went to have a look at the engine..... Big thanks to all who have contributed to this thread too.

Interesting to see the EJ205's also have the hyper crap pistons now though.
