Default Upgrade 2.0lt To 2.5lt

Gday got an My03 STI 2.0lt has anyone recently upgraded theres to 2.5lt and if so what was the way you went about it eg. bought your own 2.5lt block or got a workshop to do the lot. If so were you happy with results dyno etc.
Thanks in advance any tips would help.

Longer stroke in the same block height with the same rod length leaves less room for the piston. Many would argue that it's a downgrade from a 2.0 to a 2.5 in terms of strength and longevity.

Why do you want to 'upgrade' to the 2.5L?

Essentially we get them as the excess USA stock. JDM still uses the 2L engines which proves (in my opinion) they are still the bees knees.

Already having a EJ207 means you can smash in some serious boost which you can't do on the EJ257's.

what do you call serious boost im at 20psi now is that on par with most?

tuna runs 32 psi in his ej207 block. Thats a pretty good sign of its strength

20 psi is only 1.3-1.4bar.

With a good tune and supporting mods up to 2 bar is easily achievable these days.

thanks for info as only new to this dont really want to upgrade just fishing for information at the moment happy with 190 atw at the moment but the need for more is always there!!!

For the cost of converting to a EJ257 (quite a few thousand) you could spend that money on turbo's/intercoolers/suspension and be well ahead.
