Or even better...

BAN those who don't put the effort into making a legible paragraph.

Shuffle your way through to offtopic. A place where you may dribble as much shit as you like.

Perhaps you have something relevant to say though?

On topic,

On the contrary to what you've said. If a customer had just said 'yes' to rings, a hone, and top end service (which you may call a rebuild, i dont) If the workshop then added say $700 worth of stuff to the bill (lets say radiator service, hoses, thermostats, thermo housings, and acid dip of the block). Would you then kick up a stink because you claim the mechanic never told you of these costs? You may say no now, but i guarantee you 9/10 people would kick up a HUGE fuss. Ive seen it too many times to say otherwise.

In my personal opinion, yes, thermostats, top and bottom hoses, heater hoses and coolant would be part of my rebuild. But not all workshops work like that.

Like has been said previously, people do try and cut corners and unfortunatly thats now the majority. But to put it bluntly, no one wants to spend money on a car if they arent an enthusiast. Most people want their car back, as soon as they can, with the least possible cost. And if said customer doesnt know what a thermostat is, or what a heater hose does. They are most likley not going to putchase it.

Thanks Josh, really appreciate the reply. That's essentially what I am looking for. Almost every place I've spoken to in regards to these issues has stated the same thing. Whether you're spending good money or out of this world money, hoses, thermostat and a radiator service are a necessary part of it or more importantly a standard component of a rebuild.

This particular place has told me probably 10-15 times about how the car is "10 years old" and it's "got old components" but still failed to provide preventative maintenance on the vehicle but still managed to provide excuses for all the other untidy/unfinished parts of the build. I have been adviced to take further action, but, we'll see where that leads.

9 out of 10 are tight arses, most mechanics deal with said tight arses, so when joe public steps in expecting a complete service, its more than likely the mechanic takes the 'tight arse special' approach. Not always the case, and yes you'd expect better but unlike the internet, thats reality

explicit - so true mate... i did that quite a few times when i was 17-18. Had that whole how can we make this cheaper mentality while I was studying. Unfortunately in this case, I said to the place to build me a reliable, quick car with no shortcuts. Went through just about everything with them. Now the list of stuff 'forgotten' and/or done incorrectly is a page long along with an apparent cracked head 3 days after tuning[runin was 3 weeks].

pigsti - I took it to the apparent specialist mate. Recommended by many people here as well.
