GTPSO1 is rated for about 550CFM max depending on what you read. Some sources say 380hp atfw others 400hp...? Assume 380hp is max minus 50-60 hp loss = 330 max.
At 310-330hp atw (max) it will pull from 2500 rpm to near redline like a 15yr old with his first stick book This is a track motor...it will need to hit hard for long periods and have head room to last. Anyway if I can embarrass most people on this forum around a track with a TD04 the GTPSO1 is plenty MC Sprint Results TD04 inspired Autotest Result...

Its almost not worth building a 2.2 litre just to bolt on a TD05 to aim for 310-330hp atw.
An EJ207 + AVCS heads + VF37 twin scroll would do the same thing. |

I have a vanilla model MY99 WRX as a base. So I would need a full long motor to achieve AVCS heads + 207 bottom end = $5k for a SECOND HAND mystery pack from Dodgy...Yuk!!! plus a second hand TS Turbo ? $1K (~$300 less than a brand new GTPSO1) Dial in MY specific application, MY specific driving style, MY existing GB ratios, MY long term plans, MY budget and that's some pretty piss poor advice, for me. I doubt you have sat and crunched the numbers for several years like I have? I will have more than enough power with shite loads of torque. Using it on track is a different world...you will never understand. Let's agree to disagree Sort of explains some of the suggestions earlier in this thread. They give no consideration of the specific requirements that adamh stated. Sorry got some more Dremelling to attend to

A new EJ207 is dirt cheap, plus gaskets and all that stuff. Put it all together, and you'll probably end up spending 6k for fresh long motor. VF37 from a JWS test car....0km old. JDM Factory quality too. Quote:

2.2 is the way to go - look at Brads car - 11's all day every day or Alex's GETAGRIP - absolute jet on the track with a 2.2 and VF series turbo. 2.5's need sleeving etc, and engineer approval. Much more hassle. A well assembled 2.2 with some more boost and the bigger injectors will equate to 11's.

Netted me about 315hp at the hubs and about 390nm. Full boost when rolling on in 5th (thats 25psi) arrived by 3200rpm. I'm sure it will go well. Dont be afraid to run lots of boost though. 1.5 would be a goer..

My arguement was td04 with little lag vs td06 with dog lag.
2.2 and midrange turbo is a good mix for most situations lah!
