With $15k your options are many and varied.
Subaru are having a pricing war atm flogging off EJ207's for silly prices. Unfortunately mated with your turbo size you may need to rev the guts out of it to avoid creating a dog*. Hi revs = more $$$$ = blown budget. I am not exactly sure when your turbo will spool, an EJ207 may still suit you? *Definition of a Dog: An engine that takes over half it's total rev range to spool up, i.e. 5000rpm spool with a 8000rpm limit. May suit Dyno Queens and Drag Strip but it's not any easy car to drive as you have already noticed with your current dilemma. If you want a car that makes good overall torque, is capable of 450hp atfw, and works well with a large range of turbo's look at Option 2 from Robin at PerFOURmance Motorsports Btw a 2.2 requires no Engineering Certificate to be legal, a 2.5 will. No cert = no insurance = ![]() $3900 plus local labour and tuning will still fit inside your budget...TWICE! If you want to spend more please send me a PM and I will be happy to take your money off of you after providing you with boxes of useless bling and hours of "yo the man bro" smoke blowin ![]() Only dead fish swim with the current 2.2 ftw

EJ207 with some cams, rev it out to 9k so you get the power band you need.
Should come in well under budget.

450hp atfw = approx loss 50 hp =400 hp or a lazy 300kw atw Dead Fish?..after all the 2.5 me too comments suggesting a 2.2l is always going to upset a few people....Here's another one...After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.......The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut ![]() Exchanging your existing block and heads with your engine builder is a good option. Basically ask your engine builder if this is something they offer. It reduces your down time, ensuring the car is off the road for as little as 2 days only! Want more than 400hp atfw find a fully closed EJ20G, that's what I am using and they are good for 600hp ![]() Forget larger valves if your trying to make it more driveable, they will only compromise your throttle response. Keep it sane with a set of hot street cams say 264/264 along with upgraded valve springs. Consider dropping your power expectations a little to avoid creating another "Dog". You can still run mid 11's but it will be a lot nicer to drive. Disclaimer: This info is of course only relative to adamh, his personal goals and budget. If you are desperate to do 11's & have $15K to spend, buy a Yamaha R1 or similar - easy 10's all night long.
