I wouldn't want a pad that was too 'track' either, imagine someone pulls out in front of you and you need to warm up your brakes before they start to work! bad idea :P
normally reversing out of your driveway with a foot on the pedal or a tap on the brakes as you leave your street is enough to get heat into them to make them work the same or better than OEM pads

I've used quite few different pads over the years and my take on them is:

Bendix Ultimate (used on GC 4 pots) - good performance street pad but not up to spirited track use. Good for autokhanas though.

Pagid RS4-2 (used on GC 4 pots) - excellent track pad and OK for shorter events as they come on song quickly....had a lot of noise problems when left on for road use, so only put them in for track.

OE Subaru Brembo - OK for road but go off quickly on the track.

Ferodo DS2500 (used on Brembo) - used them happily for 4 years on MY02 STi and for the last couple of years on MY06 STI. Good compromise pad...good track performance, though lack initial bite if not hot, so can cause issues on short events from cold. Good value for money.

Pagid RS19 yellow (used on Brembo) - just put these in.... as used by Dean and other MMS tarmac cars. Awesome pad with great initial bite early and excellent progressive feel. Highly recommended but also very highly priced and can be hard to come by. A little noisy for road use but overall OK.

Brake dust - well you get that, so you wash it off. I would never consider compromising braking performance for a cleaner pad.

Rotor wear - again, it's all a compromise...you want good braking, you get wear. Brake pads and rotors (and fluid) are definitely a wear and tear consumables which should be replaced regularly if doing track work.

The fronts bolt directly on to all Liberty and Impreza from 1989 onwards (yes even FWD LX). ABS or not. You just need wheel clearance. STI discs after 2003 are not suitable due to the larger stud PCD.
Rears are not so easy but still possible.
